Short Texts. Real Reading Thinking.
In the main idea puzzles, students encounter multiple passages about rhinoceroses, but each develops a different main idea. They can't simply recognize the topic to find the correct answer. They have to determine what each passage is actually saying.
Throughout the collection, you'll also find different response directions, optional distractors, and extensions that let you adjust or deepen the practice.

Keep Teaching Grade-Level Reading Skills With Texts Students Can Better Access
When students can't read the passages you're using, they may struggle to participate in the lesson or practice the targeted skill.
This collection gives you more readable texts and optional teaching support to help make that instruction and practice possible.
What's Included
31 fiction and 34 nonfiction passages written at approximately 2nd–3rd grade reading levels, targeting 4th- and 5th-grade reading skills.
Each optional lesson includes a skill review, text and vocabulary support, a reading focus, comprehension questions, and skill discussion. Some lessons use different explanations or strategies for the same skill, giving you another way to teach or reteach it.
67 passage-based activity sets and eight nonfiction sentence sorts. The passage-based activities use approximately 1st–2nd grade readability, with different task choices or scaffolded versions available in some sets.
Printable and digital options, audio-supported lesson passages, and answer keys included.
One Passage. Different Ways to Practice.
In this main idea activity, students use the same sailfish passage with different tasks. They can generate their own answers, organize provided statements, or evaluate choices that include distractors.
Providing statements reduces how much students have to generate. Adding distractors requires them to evaluate the information more carefully. Each option keeps the focus on main idea and supporting details.
