Confession: I didn’t always love teaching morphology.

Hi, I’m Jennifer. Former elementary teacher, lifelong learner, and avid reader. 

Originally, I found morphology uninspiring. I taught it because I had to. But then something switched, and what started as mild curiosity turned into a year-long deep dive into word study. 

I read Beneath the Surface of Words, studied Bowers and Moats, and verified everything I learned. I even kept a notes app on my phone filled with words I heard or saw—in conversation, reading, TV captions, or even texts from my teenage son. That’s when I realized the power of morphology and completely fell in love with it.

I spent a year studying morphology so you wouldn’t have to.

 I created The Year of Morphology because I know most teachers aren’t as obsessed with morphology as I am. (Shocking, right?). Many are even straight-up intimidated by it.
