Important Cultural Sensitivity Note:
As I have grown and learned more about the diverse experiences of our student communities, I realize that what was once widely practiced likely never was appropriate for every classroom. In my past ignorance, I probably made some students and their parents uncomfortable, even though I took care to use only secular themes or mention religion in historical contexts.
I now understand that even this may not be enough. While I will no longer actively promote these festive resources, I will keep them available for those who find them appropriate. However, I strongly encourage you to use your professional judgment. You know your students best and can determine which materials will ensure that all students feel respected and included.
